Known traditionally as Pillapy-kullaitaran, meaning place or valley of the palms, Glenrock Lagoon is a place where water, forest, industry and story intersect.

Session focus & learning outcomes

by the end of this session, participants will:

  • Learn more about the Traditional name and stories connected to this place
  • Understand how industry and colonisation have shaped the landscape
  • Identify native plants and their cultural uses
  • Reflect on differences between ecosystems

What we explore on Country

  • How coal (Nikin) was made story
  • Mining connections pre- and post-1788
  • Traditional bush tucker and medicine
  • Learn about axe grinding grooves and their significance.
  • Traditional camps and midden sites

Session inclusions

  • Guided walks and discussion in Country
  • Catering featuring Indigenous-inspired foods as part of the Cultural Education experience. Sharing food provides an opportunity to pause, reflect, and continue conversations together. Please advise of any dietary requirements at the time of booking.
